Teacher-Librarian Program Information: A certificate, diploma, or Master's degree in Teacher-Librarianship may be pursued through the following programs. UBC offers both on-campus and off-campus courses while the University of Alberta offers distance learning. Other institutions such as the University of Victoria may sometimes offer a course. Occasionally, teacher-librarian courses and programs are offered in the district or in nearby districts. Note that due to high demand, teacher-librarian courses tend to fill up early. PB+15: Teacher-librarian diploma programs usually qualify for PB+15. Please contact the Teacher Qualification Service for more information. Be sure to contact the Teacher Qualification Service to ensure that the program that you choose qualifies for PB+15 before commencing the program.
Library Assistant and Library Technician Program Information: One year of library technology courses at a recognized college/institution or an equivalent combination of training and experience in library technology as evidenced by passing the LA I written and practical examination is required to become a Library Assistant I in the district. A two-year diploma in Library Technology from a recognized college/institution or equivalent training and experience in library technology as evidenced by passing the LA II written and practical examination is required to become a Library Assistant II in the district. A diploma in Library Technology from a recognized college/institution, including a knowledge of automated library systems and coding i.e. MARC (Machine Readable Cataloguing) and AACRII (Anglo-American Cataloguing Rules, Version II) is required to become a Library Technician I or II in the district.
